Grottos and caves
Hidden spaces, swim-throughs, and shaded grottos that make a pool unforgettable.
Faux rock unlocks shapes natural stone cannot. WETYR Pools sculpts grottos, boulder walls, caves, and rock features that look like they have been there for centuries.
Sculpted faux rock, sometimes called artificial rock, is concrete carved and colored by skilled hands. It lets us build cantilevered grottos, hidden caves, slide structures, and seamless boulder walls that real stone simply cannot form. Done right, faux rock is indistinguishable from natural rock and is engineered to handle sun, heat, and storms.
WETYR Pools handles rock & faux rock as a craftsman-led, design-build team. The people who plan your project are the people who build it and stand behind it, with no quality lost in the handoffs between separate companies. One team, one standard, and one point of accountability from the first conversation through long-term care.
Most people hear the word artificial and brace for something cheap. Faux rock, done properly, is the opposite. It is one of the most skilled crafts in the entire water-feature industry, closer to sculpture than to construction. A faux rock structure is built by hand: an engineered steel armature is shaped, concrete is applied and carved while it cures, and then the surface is colored in many translucent layers to capture the depth, the mineral streaks, and the weathering that real stone takes centuries to earn.
The reason builders reach for faux rock is freedom. Natural boulders come in whatever shapes the quarry produces, and they cannot defy gravity. Faux rock can. It can cantilever a grotto roof out over the water, hollow out a cave you swim into, form an overhang for a waterfall to pour off, and join into a seamless wall with no visible gaps or mortar lines. It lets a designer build the rock the landscape wants, rather than the rock a truck happened to deliver.
WETYR Pools treats faux rock as the artform it is. Our rock work is sculpted and colored by skilled hands, not poured into molds, so no two structures are alike and none of them look stamped or repeated. The goal is always the same: a structure that a guest will walk up to, touch, and still not be sure is not natural stone.

Boulder walls and accents shaped to your exact design, colored to look authentic.
Faux rock is built over engineered steel and concrete, rated to be climbed and jumped from where designed.
Rock work ties pools, slides, waterfalls, and spas into one natural landscape.
Faux rock is rarely the whole project. It is the element that ties a pool, a slide, a waterfall, and a spa together into one landscape. These are the structures we build with it most often.
A grotto is the feature guests never forget: a sheltered, shaded space carved into the rock, often tucked behind a waterfall so you swim through a curtain of water to reach it. Faux rock is the only practical way to build a true cantilevered grotto, because the roof has to span open water with no support beneath it.
Hollowed caves, tunnels, and swim-through passages turn a pool into an adventure. They can connect a pool to a spa, hide a slide exit, or simply create a secret space, all engineered to be safe and structurally sound.
Seamless boulder walls retain grade, frame a pool, and create the natural backdrop for waterfalls and planting. Sculpted as one continuous structure, they avoid the stacked, repetitive look of placed boulders.
Faux rock is the ideal host for a custom rock slide or a multi-tier waterfall, sculpting the slope, the ledges, the overhangs, and the grotto into a single integrated centerpiece.
A faux rock structure has to do more than look good. People stand on it, children climb it, swimmers jump from it, and it lives outdoors in full sun, heat, humidity, and storm season for decades. That is why the structure underneath matters as much as the surface on top of it.
WETYR Pools builds faux rock over an engineered framework: a steel armature and structural concrete, designed and reinforced so the rock is genuinely solid where it needs to be walked on, climbed, or jumped from. This is not decoration draped over foam. It is a built structure, engineered for real loads and for the soil and conditions of your specific site.
The surface is built to last too. The coloring is done with UV-stable pigments worked into the concrete in layers, so the rock holds its depth and tone under intense sun rather than fading to a flat grey. Properly built faux rock ages the way real stone does, gracefully, and a well-made structure looks just as convincing twenty years on as it did the day it was finished.
Faux rock is a craft-intensive feature, and the investment reflects the skilled hand work involved. The cost is driven by the size and complexity of the structure, the number of cantilevers, caves, and overhangs, the amount of integrated features such as slides and waterfalls, and whether the rock work is part of a new pool build or added to an existing pool.
Because faux rock is sculpted on site by hand, it is not the place to cut corners. The difference between rock work that looks genuinely natural and rock work that looks like grey lumps is entirely a matter of skill and time. A structure built quickly and cheaply announces itself immediately; a structure built properly fools the eye for decades. We would always rather build one convincing feature than two unconvincing ones.
Every faux rock project begins with a clear design and a fixed, itemized proposal, so you know the scope and the investment before work starts. Whether you want a single dramatic grotto or a full rock landscape tying together a pool, a slide, and a waterfall, we sculpt it to look like the land was always this way.
Clear answers to the questions homeowners ask most.
Not when it is done by craftsmen. Quality faux rock is carved and color-layered by hand, not poured into molds, so it captures the texture, mineral streaks, and weathering of real stone. Done properly, it is genuinely hard to tell from natural rock even up close.
Yes. Properly built faux rock is structural concrete over an engineered steel armature, finished with UV-stable coloring. It is engineered for real loads and for sun, heat, humidity, and storms, and it ages gracefully like natural stone.
Absolutely. Faux rock is the ideal material for integrating slides, grottos, caves, and waterfalls, because it can form the cantilevers and overhangs those features require. It is often used to tie all of them into a single sculpted structure.
Yes, when it is engineered correctly. A WETYR grotto is built over a structural steel and concrete framework designed to span open water safely. The structure is sound, and surfaces meant to be climbed or jumped from are rated for it.
Often yes. We assess the pool, the deck, and the surroundings and design rock work that integrates with what is already there, matching the look and tying the new structure into the existing landscape.
Natural boulders are limited to the shapes the quarry produces and cannot form overhangs or caves. Faux rock can be sculpted into any shape, including cantilevers and swim-throughs, and joined seamlessly. We often blend both for the best of each.
